BIG CHEMICAL AGRICULTURE DOESN'T LIKE WHITE HOUSE ORGANIC GARDEN

Michelle Obama has planted an organic garden at the White House, and I can't tell you just how thrilled I am about that. Don't underestimate the power of one person's decision, given the proper position of influence.

However, big agribusiness (the big chemical-laden farming industry) is NOT happy about it. They wrote a letter to Michelle about it, then forwarded it around to their own supporters with the statement that they "shudder" at the thought of an organic garden at the White House.

Amy Rosenthal, EWG's Farm & Food Outreach Coordinator, writes about it at EWG's Enviroblog in a post titled "Who's Afraid of the White House Garden?"

From Amy's post:
"Want to tell the pesticide peddlers you support Michelle Obama's organic garden? Click here to sign the CREDO Action petition."

Sustainablog wrote a piece about this also - giving a liitle more information, such as the fact that the organization who protested the garden being organic are executives of Dow, Monsanto, and DuPont - some of the nastiest companies out there.

Also check out The Who Farm (White House Organic Farm Project) site. This was a project aimed at encouraging the Obamas to grow an organic farm.

A collection of resources: living wage....Fair Trade.... organic food and agriculture issues.... pesticides and herbicides on our lawns....chemicals in our home products, furnishings and building materials, in cosmetics and body care products.... and how all these things impact the baby in the womb, the toddler on the floor and on the lawn, and we adults as well.
